Three Places in the Rías Baixas Worth Discovering

The Rías Baixas are about much more than beaches and great food. Among the estuaries, fishing villages and Atlantic landscapes, you’ll find places that preserve the history and character of Galicia. If you want to make the most of your holiday and explore the area, Combarro, Cambados and A Illa de Arousa are three stops well worth adding to your route.

Combarro, hórreos overlooking the sea

On the shores of the Pontevedra estuary lies Combarro, one of the most distinctive fishing villages in the Rías Baixas. Its historic quarter stands out for its traditional hórreos by the sea, stone houses, arcades and stone crosses. A stroll along Rúa do Mar and its narrow streets reveals a picture-postcard setting closely linked to Galicia’s seafaring traditions.

If you’re staying at BLUESEA Costa Norte, you can include Combarro on a route along the coast and combine your visit with other places around the Pontevedra estuary.

Cambados, heritage and Albariño culture

In the heart of O Salnés, Cambados combines heritage, gastronomy and winemaking tradition. Its historic centre is officially recognised as a Site of Cultural Interest, and one of its most iconic spots is Fefiñáns Square, surrounded by some of the town’s most notable historic buildings. Cambados is also one of the great centres of Albariño wine and the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin.

A perfect stop for a stroll, to discover its architecture and experience the gastronomic culture of this part of Galicia.

A Illa de Arousa, nature in the heart of the estuary

Finally, A Illa de Arousa reveals a more natural and seafaring side of the Rías Baixas. Connected to the mainland by a bridge almost two kilometres long, the island has around 36 kilometres of coastline and natural areas such as O Carreirón Natural Park, with coves, dunes, marshes and lagoons.

From BLUESEA Costa Norte, you can make the most of your holiday to explore the Rías Baixas, alternating beach days with excursions to its villages and natural landscapes.

Combarro, Cambados and A Illa de Arousa reveal three different sides of the Rías Baixas: seafaring tradition, heritage and nature. Three places to discover Galicia beyond its beaches.
