Las Fallas, Valencia between fire and fireworks

Every March, Las Fallas transform Valencia into a huge open-air stage. Hundreds of fallas monuments fill the streets and squares, while mascletàs, parades and traditional events create a unique atmosphere throughout the city.

The festival reaches its spectacular finale on the night of 19 March with La Cremà, when the monuments are set alight, bringing several days of celebrations to an end. Las Fallas are recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Gran Fira de València, summer takes to the streets

July brings the Gran Fira de València, a programme of concerts, shows and numerous activities held at different venues throughout the city.

One of its best-known highlights is the Batalla de Flores, which traditionally brings the festivities to a colourful close with a parade of decorated floats and a unique battle in which thousands of flowers fly through the air.

La Tomatina, a different kind of festival in Buñol

At the end of August, the town of Buñol hosts one of Valencia’s most internationally famous festivals: La Tomatina. During the event, thousands of participants take to the streets for a huge tomato fight that turns the town centre into a sea of red.
